Meizu M5s, a budget smartphone with metal body launched in China

Meizu M5s, a budget smartphone has been launched in China couple of days back. It comes in Champagne Gold, Star Gray, Moonlight Silver and Rose Gold colors. There are two variants based on storage - the 16GB ROM model is priced at 799 Yuan (Rs. 7,803 approx.), while the 32GB storage variant costs 999 Yuan (Rs. 9,757 approx.). The M5s is going on sale from February 20, 2023 only in China. We do not know when it will be going global. Anyway, let’s have a look at its features and specifications below.

The Meizu M5s, the successor of m3s boasts of a 5.2-inch HD IPS display, which is protected by 2.5D curved glass and has a pixel density of 282 PPI. The screen-to-body ratio is on the lower side (69.4%) but the display has a contrast ratio of 1000:1. The M5s packs in a 13 megapixel primary camera that comes with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, 5P lens and Sony sensor (model not mentioned). Obviously, the rear camera can capture Full HD footage. For clicking selfies, there is a 5 megapixel secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture. It is a Dual SIM smartphone with a metal body but we get a hybrid slot.

The Meizu M5s is powered by a MediaTek MT6753 64-bit processor clocked at 1.3GHz with Mali-T760 GPU. We get 3GB RAM and 16GB / 32GB internal storage but it can be externally extended up to 128GB by using a microSD card. The phone runs on Flyme OS 6.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS but we do not know if it will get updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in the future or not. There is also a mTouch 2.1 fingerprint sensor located into the home button, which can unlock the mobile in just 0.2 seconds.

Connectivity on the M5s includes WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (Dual Band), GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GLONASS and 3G HSPA+. We do not get USB Type-C and NFC. Under the hood, there is a 3000mAh battery with support for mCharge, that can charge the phone from 0-56% in 36 minutes.

We hope that Meizu launches the M5s in India and then we can feature it in our best smartphones under 10000 segment.
