Meizu has launched a new budget smartphone at an event in China yesterday. It has been named as the Meizu M5 and surprisingly it comes with a polycarbonate body. It is basically a slightly bigger version of the Meizu m3s in a polycarbonate shell. The Meizu m3s was even recently launched in India. They have almost identical hardware onboard, let’s have a look at them below.
In the display and camera department, the Meizu M5 features a 5.2-inch HD display that has 2.5D curved glass protection and a pixel density of 282 PPI. There is a 13 megapixel primary camera at the back along with a 5 megapixel selfie camera at the front. At the heart, the M5 has a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz along with Mali-T860 MP2 GPU. For multitasking and storage, we are given options of both 2GB RAM with 16GB ROM and 3GB RAM with 32GB ROM, where the storage is further expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. The phone runs on Flyme OS 5.5 based on Yun OS 5.1. It is a dual SIM phone but comes with a hybrid slot, supports 4G VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and more. There is a mTouch 2.1 fingerprint sensor onboard that can unlock the device in just 0.2 seconds. It is located below the display and has been embedded into the home button. Under its hood, there is a 3070mAh battery which does not support fast charging.

The Meizu M5 comes in a lot of colors including Matte Black, Champagne Gold, Sapphire Blue, Mint Green and Glacier White. It is priced at 699 Yuan ($103 / Rs. 6,898 approx.) for the 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM option whereas the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM variant costs 899 Yuan ($133 / Rs. 8,869 approx.). It goes on sale in China sometime this month (November). We do not have any information about its global roll out yet.
