Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, the successor of the original truly bezel-less phone, has been launched at an event in China today. The phone has been designed by world-renowned designer Philippe Starck. It is more of a practical smartphone rather than a concept phone and hence will get launched in India and in other markets very soon as well. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 boasts of a 5.99-inch 18:9 IPS display, which has a DCI-P3 color gamut, resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels (Full HD+), pixel density of 403 PPI and screen-to-body ratio of 93%. The phone is being powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor clocked at 2.45GHz along with Adreno 540 GPU. For multitasking and storage, we get 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal memory (UFS 2.1). The Special Edition comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM. The memory cannot be expanded further as it does not have a microSD card slot. The Mi MIX 2 is a Dual SIM (nano) phone and it runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS out of the box.
In the camera department, there is a 12 megapixel primary camera with Sony IMX386 sensor, dual-tone LED flash, 4-axis OIS and f/2.0 aperture at the back. It can shoot 4K videos. On the front, there is a 5 megapixel selfie shooter with facial recognition and it can record Full HD videos as well. The Mi MIX 2 features a ceramic body with aluminium frames, which is 7.7mm thick and weighs 185 grams whereas the Special Edition has a complete ceramic body and it weighs 187 grams. There is a fingerprint sensor, which is located at the back and can unlock the phone very quickly. We get a sound guided speaker with 50mW high power speaker with sound guided tube for an enhanced audio experience.
The Mi MIX 2 rocks all the modern connectivity features such as 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, GPS, GLONASS, 3G HSPA+, NFC, USB Type-C and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MU-MIMO. Under the hood of this giant phablet, there is a 3400mAh battery (non-removable), which supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. It also supports 6 modes, 43 bands and thus is a truly world phone. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack and Xiaomi is bundling a USB Type-C to 3.5mm audio converter.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 standard variant is priced at 3299 Yuan ($506 / Rs. 32,326 approx.) for the 64GB ROM variant, 3599 Yuan ($552 / Rs. 35,266 approx.) for the 128GB ROM model and 3999 Yuan ($613 / Rs. 39,185 approx.) for the 256GB ROM variant in Black color. The Mi MIX 2 Special Edition with full ceramic body is priced at 4699 Yuan ($720 / Rs. 46,042 approx.) and it comes in both Black and White colors.
