Samsung Galaxy Note8 has been finally announced at an event in New York today. It is the most premium flagship smartphone from Samsung ever, which now comes with a bezel-less Infinity display. It becomes the first flagship Samsung phone to boast of dual rear cameras. As the Note series is known for its S Pen stylus, the Note8 comes with an improved S Pen stylus with finer tip and improved pressure sensitivity.
The Samsung Galaxy Note8 comes with 6.3-inch Super AMOLED Infinity, Always-on display. It has a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels (Quad HD+) and is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The Note8 has a pixel density of 522 PPI, aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and a screen-to-body ratio of 83.2%. It is powered by the Exynos 8895 octa-core processor with Mali-G71 MP20 GPU (India and other regions) / Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor with Adreno 540 GPU. We get 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64/128/256GB of internal storage. Also, users can extend the memory up to 256GB by adding a microSD card.
The Samsung Galaxy Note8 runs on the latest TouchWiz UI based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS and will certainly be upgradable to Android 8.0 Oreo OS. In the camera department, there is a 12 megapixel primary camera with Dual Pixel, LED flash, f/1.7 aperture, wide-angle lens and OIS along with another 12 megapixel secondary camera with telephoto lens, f/2.4 aperture, OIS, 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom. On the front, we get a 8 megapixel secondary selfie camera with f/1.7 aperture and wide-angle lens. The Note8 supports Hybrid Dual SIM (nano) and is also water and dust resistant (IP68 certified). It is 8.6mm thick and weighs 195 grams.
The Samsung Note8 includes a lot of sensors including Accelerometer, Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, Heart Rate Sensor, Proximity Sensor, RGB Light Sensor, Iris Sensor and Pressure Sensor. In the connectivity department, it has 4G VoLTE, 3G HSPA+, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) VHT80 MU-MIMO, USB Type-C 3.1, GPS with GLONASS, NFC and MST. In the battery department, the Note8 boasts of a 3300mAh battery with support for fast charging via both wired and wireless (WPC and PMA) charging.
Samsung has also kept the Smart Assistant named Bixby on the Note8, that was introduced with the Galaxy S8 and S8+. It will offer personalized experience to improve the way people interact with their phones. According to the company, it is not only a voice assistant but an intuitive and comprehensive interface which will leverage contextual awareness to learn users’ habits and then respond accordingly. There is a dedicated Bixby hardware button.
The Samsung Galaxy Note8 will be going on sale from mid-September globally (including India) in Midnight Black, Maple Gold, Deep Sea Blue and Orchid Grey colors. Amazon India is already teasing the phone and it might be an Amazon exclusive (online). In USA, it will go on pre-order from August 24 and will start shipping from September 15. The pricing has not been disclosed yet.
