OnePlus fans all over India were surprised when they opened Flipkart this morning. In a great marketing move, Flipkart advertised through their banners that they are about to sell the 64GB soft gold colour variant of the OnePlus 3 for a price of about Rs. 19,999 as part of their ‘Big Shopping Days’ sale, which is set to commence from December 18 to 21.
That’s right, a price drop of around Rs. 8,000!
The huge price drop came as a shock to the loyal fans, especially the ones who had purchased the device for Rs. 27,999.
An even bigger shock came when OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei, who it seems was as shocked as the fans were, lashed out on Twitter.

Here’s what the OnePlus Co-Founder asked the Flipkart Co-Founder, Sachin Bansal
“@_sachinbansal brother, what’s this? We’re exclusive with @amazonIN”
It seems that Flipkart is selling an Amazon exclusive product without getting any consent from OnePlus and is showing it off on the very front page.
Following the Co-Founder’s tweet, several angry fans who bought the device replied to it challenging the brand’s responsibility. For this Carl Pei replied
“This is the problem. For premium brands, trust is everything. We would never betray trust by dropping prices like this.”, blaming Flipkart for the incident.
OnePlus India also released this statement
“OnePlus is focused on creating premium flagship smartphones. We have an exclusive partnership with Amazon in India. We advise customers to purchase OnePlus products only through official channels as we cannot guarantee the authenticity of the products sold elsewhere.”
A Flipkart spokesperson finally spoke about the matter defending the company.
“Flipkart is a marketplace which helps sellers connect with customers across the country. All our sellers are mandated to adhere to stringent guidelines. The prices and discounts for all our sales are decided by the participating sellers and brands.”
OnePlus 3, the 3rd device in the series started by the immensely popular OnePlus One, was launched back in June 2016, at the price of Rs. 27,999 as an Amazon Exclusive.

Talking about the phone’s features, the flagship killer has a 5.5-inch AMOLED display along with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It has a quad-core Snapdragon 820 64-bit processor along with Adreno 530 GPU under the hood. It also has 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. It rocks a 16 megapixel primary camera along with a 8 megapixel selfie camera, both of them have an aperture of f/2.0.
Also, OnePlus has already launched the successor of the OnePlus 3 in India and it is known as the OnePlus 3T. It is available exclusively on Amazon India starting at Rs. 29,999.
This incident could prove to be a big blow in the face for Flipkart if it is not dealt with carefully, especially if Amazon or OnePlus decides to take the legal course.
We are yet to know how they have managed to get their hands on these devices. Even if the sellers got these legally, the big question is if they will be able to provide warranties to these devices.
We will just have to wait till December 18 to see if Flipkart goes ahead with this OnePlus 3 deal or back off after OnePlus’ public attack.
