Samsung announces a modern day rugged smartphone called Galaxy Xcover 4

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 is the latest rugged smartphone from the house of Samsung. This device was announced at the beginning of this month and will go on sale in Europe in Black color from next month (April). This water-resistant, dust proof, US Military Standard MIL-STD 810G certified phone has been priced at €259 ($276 / Rs. 18,290 approx.). Check out the features and specifications of the mobile below.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 rocks a 5.0-inch IPS display, which has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (HD), pixel density of 294 PPI and screen-to-body ratio of 64.3%. The display can also be used in extreme conditions using gloves. The smartphone is powered by the Exynos 7570 quad-core 14nm processor clocked at 1.4GHz along with Mali-T720 GPU. For multitasking and storage, there is 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, however, the internal memory can be extended up to 128GB by inserting a microSD card. Out of the box, this rugged smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS, which is the latest OS instalment from the house of Google.

Being a rugged phone, it is IP68 certified. Hence, the phone is water-resistant up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. It can also withstand a fall up to 1.2 meters since it is US Military MIL-STD 810G certified. In the camera department, there is a 13 megapixel primary rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, LED flash and can shoot Full HD videos. We get a 5 megapixel selfie camera on the front with f/2.2 aperture. It is 9.7mm thick and weighs 172 grams.

In the connectivity department, we have 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.0, 3G HSPA+, NFC, GPS and GLONASS. Under the hood of this rugged smartphone from the house of Samsung, we get a 2800mAh battery to power the phone.

Since there is no demand for rugged phones in India, it is not expected to be launched here but if Samsung ever launches it in the country, we might include it in our best smartphones under 20000 segment.
