Nokia 8 with Snapdragon 835 SoC, Bothie camera tech comes to India

Nokia 8, the best Nokia Android phone of 2017, has been officially launched in India at an event in Delhi today. Last month, HMD Global had unveiled the flagship Nokia smartphone at an event in London.

The Nokia 8 is priced at Rs. 36,999 in India and will go on sale starting from October 14 on Amazon India as well as select retail stores across the country in Tempered Blue, Steel, Polished Blue and Polished Copper colors.

The Nokia 8 rocks a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (Quad HD), pixel density of 554 PPI, 700 nits of brightness and is protected by sculpted Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor clocked at 2.45GHz along with Adreno 540 GPU. For multitasking and storage, we get 4GB DDR4X RAM with 64GB ROM (UFS 2.1), which can also be extended up to 256GB by adding a microSD card. Although, a 6GB RAM with 128GB ROM model is available globally but it has not made it to the Indian market. The Nokia 8 is also water splash resistant as it is IP54 certified. There is a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button and it comes with a barometer as well.

In the camera department, the Nokia 8 boasts of a dual camera setup – a 13 megapixel primary camera (RGB) with OIS and another 13 megapixel secondary camera (monochrome) for low light and dedicated black and white photography. They come with ZEISS optics, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, IR ranger finder and dual-tone LED flash. We get a 13 megapixel front-facing selfie camera with ZEISS optics, PDAF and f/2.0 aperture as well. It comes with Dual-Sight technology called ‘Bothie’, which uses both front and back cameras simultaneously to fuse both images together into one photo or video.

The Nokia 8 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS out of the box and will be one of the first devices in the world to get Android 8.0 O OS. It is a Single / Dual SIM phone (depending on region) and will come with a hybrid slot. The phone has 4G VoLTE support along with 3G HSPA+, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MIMO, NFC, USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 and GPS/GLONASS. Under the hood, there is a 3090mAh battery (non-removable) with support for Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging. The phone is made up of 6000 series aluminium and has a luxury mirror finish. It comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack and is 7.9mm thick.

The Nokia 8 comes with Nokia OZO 360° spatial surround sound that uses three microphones and Nokia acoustic technology algorithms to capture the sound with incredible detail and then it can be played back on the Nokia 8, YouTube and other supporting devices. The user can also broadcast this live on Facebook and YouTube directly from the camera app.
