Android creator Andy Rubin launches Essential Phone with a bezel-less display

Essential Phone is the latest flagship smartphone to join the bezel-less party. The phone has been introduced by Android creator Andy Rubin and it will only be available in USA for $699. We get a 5.71-inch edge-to-edge Quad HD bezel-less display, which sits on a titanium and ceramic body. In spite of being a flagship phone, it is modular in nature. You will be able to attach a 360-degree camera with the help of the magnetic connector located at the back. The camera is capable of shooting UHD (3840 x 1920 pixels) video at 30fps. Essential is also offering a charging dock which can be connected to the magnetic connector.

Essential Phone - One of the best bezel-less smartphones in the world

The Essential Phone boasts of a 5.71-inch IPS display, which has a resolution of 2560 x 1312 pixels (Quad HD), pixel density of 504 PPI and screen-to-body ratio of 84.9%. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The phone is being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor clocked at 2.45GHz along with Adreno 540 GPU. For multitasking and storage, we get 4GB RAM and 128GB internal memory but it cannot be expanded externally as it does not support microSD card. The Essential PH-1 runs on Ambient OS based on Android 7.0 Nougat.

In the camera department, we get a dual lens setup at the back - a 13 megapixel Dual RGB + Mono camera with image fusion technology and a 13 megapixel True Monochrome mode with f/1.85 aperture. It can shoot 4K videos at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps and 720p (slow motion) at 120fps. On the front, there is a 8 megapixel selfie shooter with 16:9 aspect ratio f/2.2 fixed hyperfocal lens, which can also shoot 4K videos. The Essential Phone features a fingerprint sensor at the back but does not have a 3.5mm audio jack. However, the company will be shipping a headphone dongle in the box. It is 7.8mm thick and weighs 185 grams. There are 4 microphones with noise cancellation and beam forming for better audio experience.

The Essential PH-1 rocks all the modern connectivity features such as 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, 3G HSPA+, USB Type-C, NFC and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MIMO. Under the hood, we get a 3040mAh battery with support for fast charging.

The Essential Phone is available in Black Moon, Pure White, Ocean Depth and Stellar Grey colors. It can now be pre-ordered in USA for $699. A bundle pack with the 360-degree camera is also available for $749.
